Celebrating a Completed Draft

If I knew how to create an emoji on a full keyboard, I’d put that cute guy with the streamers here! Or maybe the champagne glasses if I were feeling a little less polished :)

I’ve been updating this blog a little less often than I’d hoped for two reasons.

First, I’ve also been contributing to the Our AI Futures Lab blog; a nascent project that will soon offer training for mission-driven workers in a cohort model.

Also, I’ve been working overtime to get my book draft together! But I’ve just finished the complete first draft. HURRAY! In celebration, to build some anticipation, and in lieu of writing even a single additional word today, I thought I’d share what’s in the book :)

Part 1 — Foundations

  • Why mission-driven orgs need an AI strategy

  • Choose augmentation (not “always automate” or “always avoid”)

  • What you’ll get from this book

  • Understand AI in your context: quick intro, “AI vs. human” work, and the jagged frontier

  • Map your organization’s AI risks

  • Build your AI strategy framework (and vet consultants wisely)

  • Start with vision, values, and mission (journal prompts)

Part 2 — Values & AI

  • Privacy & security

  • Environmental sustainability

  • Authenticity & trust

  • Effort & craft (show the work, don’t cheapen it)

  • Ownership & intellectual property

  • Information integrity & reputation (deepfakes & disinformation)

  • Infrastructure dependence & service reliability

  • Inclusion & accessibility

  • Governance & accountability

  • Equity & justice

  • Error & bias (and how to reduce both)

  • Good jobs: protect, upskill, and redesign roles

  • Replacement & deskilling—how to avoid the slide

  • Connection: use AI to create more human time, not less

Part 3 — Aligning AI Use

  • Put it all together: a practical walk-through

  • Assess your readiness

  • Identify and prioritize use cases (and quick efficiency wins)

  • Measure impact and value

  • Evaluate and select technology solutions

  • Implement well: change management that sticks

  • Govern for the long haul: policies, roles, and routines

  • Improve continuously and plan for the future

I can’t wait to share this with you! But the book is with an editor right now because your girl is many things, but a perfect writer is NOT one of them! Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) for reviewers will be out by the end of the month, and the book will be released in Ebook and hard copy early next year!

If you want to be a reviewer (and get an early copy for free!) or attend a book launch party in San Diego, CA, send me an email: karen@drkarenboyd.com <3
