Bio
My name is Karen Boyd. I am a researcher, speaker, and writer focused on helping humanity flourish in the future of work at the Policy and Innovation Center. As part of that work, I help people align their AI use with their values and explain AI without the jargon, hype, or hot takes. I am writing the upcoming book “Amplify Good Work” (September 2025).
I earned an MBA at the University of California, San Diego and a PhD from the School of Information at the University of Maryland, College Park. My research focuses on ethical sensitivity in AI design, AI design supports, (un)ethical applications of AI, and AI and the future of work.
You can find me on LinkedIn or on Google Scholar, if you’re into that.
I’ve appeared on the First Day Podcast & the Nonprofit Jenny show; been covered in the San Diego Union Tribune, AI for Educators Daily, & the AI in Education podcast; and been cited by over 350 scholarly articles.
I would most prefer to be in the sleeping compartment of a train right now!
I love giving talks to mission-driven teams about the power and risks of AI in their work, the future of work, how to safely get started with large language models like ChatGPT, how to augment and empower your human staff, and more.
